Shower Power

8th May 2009

One of the nicest things about a hot summer, says Mary Linehan, is the wash-and-go ease of that most American of ablutions: the shower.

Yes, it’s less pampering, but with the new wave of shower gels that can cleanse, tone, moisturise, exfoliate and virtually anything else you can think of, you have to admit that you emerge refreshed, revitalised and… cool.

Two hot shower ingredients to try this summer are orange blossom – reputed to release creativity, relieve anxiety and improve mental clarity – and bergamot, a fragrant citrus fruit used in food (Earl Grey Tea) and aromatherapy to alleviate depression. Products to check out include…

Nivea’s new Happy Time Shower Cream (£1.93). Delicately zesty with orange blossom and grapefruit, there’s also richly moisturising bamboo milk so you can shower without worrying too much about dehydration.

Boots Ingredients Mango and Orange Blossom (£1.16) does the trick for a smart girl’s revitalising cool down, while White Tea and Orange Blossom (£1.99) from the new Radox Wellbeing Shower Creams range delicately scents and refreshes mind and body with the added benefits of the anti-oxidant properties of tea.

Meanwhile, Boots has just launched a riposte to Body Shop and Lush. Its Bergamot Body Wash (£2.50) contains organic bergamot oil plus a generous helping of sustainably sourced and community traded shea butter to moisturise and condition the skin.

And last but not least, the uber-cool US face and body range (Malin & Goetz) Bergamot Body Wash (£15) – this brand is so funky its name is in brackets! This height-of-summer-scented cleanser combines bergamot and lemon verbena with amino acid-based cleansers to gently wash and refresh and leave skin squeaky clean. Gorgeous!

Boots own brands are available at Boots nationwide; Radox is available at all good chemists; Nivea is available at good chemists and supermarkets, or call 0845644 8556 for full stockist details; for (Malin & Goetz) visit, or
