Mary Linehan suggests a trio of winter warmers to spice up an at-home spa experience

When it comes to winter bath and body care, every spa specialist will advise there should always be time in the schedule to book yourself some bathroom time to create your own at-home spa experience. If you’re a regular spa-goer it helps extend the benefits of your professional treatments. If not, then it’s the next best thing.

And, to get the most from your regime, here’s Optima’s pick of three great accompaniments – salt, pepper and oil… to add a touch of spice that will make all the difference to the experience.

Salt… Origins Incredible Spreadable Scrub (£22): Dead Sea salts, ginger and a bit of brown sugar gently buff, polish and brighten the skin. Ginger has gentle warming properties, and stimulates and is a bit of an energy booster. This also has a drizzle of jojoba and olive oil to moisturise and nourish and to make it really easy to smooth onto the skin. A delicious scent of lemon, lime and bergamot will lift any winter blues.

Pepper… Tisserand Detox Body Massage Oil (£8.10): Black pepper, lemon and juniper all help to stimulate the lymphatic circulation, boosting the body’s natural cleansing system. Apply to cleansed, slightly damp skin and get all the benefits of a conditioning massage treat. Tisserand also has a Detox Bath Oil with fortifying ginger, lemongrass and rosemary to kickstart the detox process. And, at the price, you’ll be hard pressed to find such a good value detox experience anywhere.

Oil… Fushi’s Really Good Hair Oil (£15.95): Made with four nourishing oils (avocado, virgin coconut, sweet almond and Moroccan argan) together with a stimulating herbal infusion that also includes brahmi and neem. In Ayurveda, brahmi is used for its nourishing properties to promote healthy hair growth, and neem for a healthy scalp. Apply to clean hair, massage into the scalp from the roots to the tip, tie up in a knot and allow the steam from your bath to encourage the oil do its best. Leave for 30 minutes or so, then wash out for shiny, bouncy hair, beautifully fragranced with Indian jasmine.
