Think Purple

3rd December 2010

Looking to epitomise the heart of fashion glamour this party season? Think purple.

The colour purple has been associated with power and glory, pomp and circumstance (and Whoopi Goldberg, of course) for centuries. Its rarity drove up the value – hence it was only accessible for those suitably wealthy. That was then – but purple is still very much now. Of all the current catwalk colour directions, it’s the purples, mauves and magentas that are the most alluring.

According to Tyen, Creative Director for Dior Make-Up (a position he has held for nearly 30 years, making him one of the most recognised creators in the beauty world, and still one of the most audacious), "Purple is my colour; it sublimates the eyes and gives expression to femininity. I created Smoky Purple to add a touch of mystery and seduction..."

Some of the classic purples that will get you noticed in the festive crowd this Christmas include:

Dior 5 Couleurs Iridescent in Stylish Move (£39)
As the man himself says: smoky purples and ash grey mauves, complete with iridescent highlighter

MAC Liquidlast Liner in Metalurg (£13.50)

MAC Pigment in Violet (£15)
Beautiful eye powder pigments for that glittery, vamped-up look

Chanel Inimitable Intense Mascara in Purple 05 (£21.50)
Intensify your own eye colour, with this intense blackish purple for volume and length.

Illamasqua Lipstick in Fetish (£15) & Sheer Lipgloss in Mina (£12.50)
