Hair's The Thing

A great cut & colour can take years off you, promises Mary Linehan

Nicola Clarke, Creative Colour Director at John Frieda, whose clients include the three Kates – Blanchett, Moss and Winslet – has Five Top Tips to help keep age at bay.

1 “Colour should be as natural as possible, maybe one to two shades lighter/darker than your true shade. Harsh, strong or bold colours can draw attention to imperfections and be ageing.”

2 “If you’re a reluctant grey, go for blonde ash shades that complement rather than completely altering the colour. You don’t get continual and noticeable root re-growth that needs constant touching up.”

3 “A great haircut that suits you is an absolute must. Not only will your hair look fantastic, but you’ll feel more confident and happy with the world. Work with your hairdresser to choose a style that flatters your face shape and complements your style.”

4 “Make the most of what you have by keeping your hair in great condition – go for regular trims and give your hair regular (once a week) deep conditioning treatments to restore health and vitality.”

5 “Volumising products are great for boosting the hair and injecting some vitality, making the appear look and feel thicker.”

Nicola recommends some John Frieda hair products (naturally!) to include in your anti-ageing routine:

•The Luxurious Volume range, comprising shampoos, conditioner and styling products (£5.49), incorporates a thickening technology to boost and revitalise dull, thinning hair.

•Luxurious Volume Blow Dry Lotion (£5.49) coats the hair shaft to create volume and fullness.

•Frizz-Ease Miraculous Recovery Crème Masque (£5.99) for targeted conditioning for damaged hair, smoothing frizz and creating gloss.
