Makeup doyenne, Barbara Daly, is celebrating her ten years collaboration with Tesco. Even if you don’t usually shop there, Barbara Daly Makeup is one good reason to give the place a whirl. The formulations and colours are right up there with more expensive prestige brands and, since every little helps, their unbeatable prices mean every makeup bag should have one product.

To celebrate, Barbara has put together the Perfect 10 Collection: ten products that she herself deems ‘essentials’, which include Super Sheer Loose Powder (£5.35); Cheek To Cheek Blush (£4.78) and Designer Eyes Trio (£5.35).

For those who don’t know anything about Barbara Daly, OBE, her career as a makeup artist has spanned decades. She has worked with the top photographers – Snowdon, Bailey, Norman Parkinson, Avedon and Testino; she’s worked on all the leading magazines including Harpers Bazaar, US, British and Italian Vogue; and she’s made up the faces of ubermodels from Twiggy to Cindy Crawford. It was to Barbara that the Establishment turned to create a look for the wedding of a certain Lady Diana Spencer.

Perhaps the most startling fact about Barbara Daly, though, is that she collaborated closely with film-maker Stanley Kubrick and was therefore responsible for the shockingly memorable images for A Clockwork Orange.

FIT AT 50…

It’s hard to believe that Dr. Scholl first engineered his eponymous exercise sandal in 1959. This genius piece of footwear technology has been shown in a biomechanical study to increase calf muscle action by 30% so it’s great for toning the lower limbs. But take note: make sure you’re wearing The Pescura Exercise Sandal to get the full benefits.

For its 50th, Scholl has come up with a funky limited edition collection of retro, pop-art and flower-power inspired designs, still keeping the trademark beechwood footbed, non-slip sole and adjustable buckle, but with a few added features using new materials and advances in comfort and support.

Dr. Scholl Pescura Sandals retail at £40 and are available from
