Diary Dates

2nd March 2012

Whether you’re planning to buy, window shop or simply grab ideas for future use, the spring fairs and shows – from specialist events with expert dealers to huge affairs with every sort of stall and style under the sun – are great opportunities for a day out. Here we profile one of the new highlights of the interior design calendar, and suggest some other dates you should have in your diary now…

The London Antique Rug & Textile Art Fair – LARTA – was launched in 2011 to provide a new specialist interest event for collectors and connoisseurs of the woven image. It is also the UK’s only dedicated rug, carpet and textile fair, which means that there are great opportunities to buy something distinctive to set your home apart.

This souk-like fair celebrates the use of form and colour in the woven image either as an art form or as part of any decorative scheme. Customers at the inaugural 2011 event included museum curators alongside international and UK collectors and interior designers.

The second staging of the fair will be held from 22 to 25 March, with a range of exhibits that has increased in both scope and breadth. Pieces are presented by experienced international dealers in rugs and carpets, tapestries and textiles, from the East (Anatolia, the Caucasus, Persia, Central Asia, India and China) as well as Europe and Africa. Works for sale will span all periods up to the early 20th century. Colour, texture and exotic histories blend together, and the visitor can view and buy fine collectors’ items alongside unusual and well-priced decorative pieces.

LARTA takes place at The Showroom, 63 Penfold Street, Marylebone, London NW8 8PQ, a moment’s walk from Edgware Road underground station. Entry is free.

Thursday 22 March - Opening Night, 6pm - 10pm
