Fresh and Festive

13th December 2013

Add a certain something to your pre-Christmas drinks… Try the Pink Lady suggestions for a light and fruity start to your celebrations – or, if you need something to revive you from earlier indulgences, opt for the feisty Bloody Mary recipe. Either way, with two of these cocktails based on apple and one including radish, tomato and celery, you’ll also be ticking off several of your five-a-day…

Appletini

A few ice cubes
1 large Pink Lady® apple, juiced, or 100ml of pressed Pink Lady® juice
1 shot (30ml) vodka
A good squeeze lemon juice (about a tablespoon)
1 tsp caster sugar
A few wafer-thin slices of Pink Lady®, to garnish

Add the ice to a cocktail shaker and pour over the juice and vodka.
Add the lemon juice and caster sugar and shake to chill and mix.
Pour into a martini glass and garnish the rim with slices of Pink Lady® apple.

Pink Lady® & champagne cocktail

A couple of drops of grenadine
1 large chilled Pink Lady® apple, juiced, or 100ml of chilled Pink Lady® juice
Champagne to top up (about 75-100ml, depending on your glass)

Add a couple of drops of grenadine to the bottom of a champagne glass.
Pour over the chilled juice and top up with champagne.
Serve at once.

Radish Bloody Mary

A delicious Bloody Mary recipe complete with retro celery sticks and the requisite balance of fresh and bold flavours. This can be made to taste depending on your guests. The addition of the radish, rubbing shoulders with the lime, presents a really effective new twist to a classic drink.

100ml vodka
50ml sherry
½ tbsp freshly grated horseradish
25ml Worcestershire sauce
Tabasco to taste
½ tsp celery salt
Cracked black pepper to taste
750ml tomato juice
500g ice cubes
100g sliced radishes
1 lime cut into wedges
4 celery sticks to garnish

Mix together the vodka, sherry, horseradish, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco, celery salt, black pepper and tomato juice in a large jug.
Fill another large jug with the ice, sliced radishes and lime wedges.
Pour the liquid over the ice, and serve straight away in chilled glasses with celery sticks in them.
