Perseverance, Compassion, Responsibility and Participation

Situated on 200 acres of beautiful Hertfordshire parkland just a ten minute walk from the Metropolitan Line at Rickmansworth, Royal Masonic School is an independent girls’ school providing a warm, nurturing and inclusive environment for both day and boarding students.

Promoting core values, such as perseverance, compassion, responsibility and participation, the school aims to open doors for young people in an increasingly competitive and changing world, where academic achievement is not the only criterion for success. Independent learning is encouraged, self-esteem is fostered and girls leave the school confident and curious learners.

At RMS, the facilities are second to none. Ruspini House Pre-School for girls and boys aged 2-4, Cadogan House Prep Dept and the dedicated Sixth Form Centre are all housed in outstanding, newly refurbished, accommodation. The well-equipped resource centre provides an oasis of calm for both study and leisurely reading during lunch and break times. A palatial sports centre includes squash courts and a fully equipped gym; extensive sports fields also contribute to the wide-ranging success of the school’s sports teams. Art, textiles and photography studios provide an outlet for students to showcase their exceptional creative talents. Drama, dance and music have a high profile and major productions are performed annually in Watersmeet Theatre.

Where extra-curricular activities are seen as marginal in many schools today, RMS provides a well-rounded education, catering effectively for very different children; from girls who thrive on academic study to those who love sport, from confident dancers and actresses to gifted painters and designers. Community spirit is encouraged through charity fundraising, volunteering work and fostering links between students across the age range.

The school’s outstanding boarding facilities are currently home to approximately 150 girls aged 7-18. Full, weekly and flexi-boarding are on offer, and the pastoral care system is aimed at raising thoughtful, mature young women in a caring, home-like environment.
In recent OFSTED and ISI inspections, RMS was judged as outstanding in both its boarding provision and in all aspects of education. Inspectors noted, “High attainment and exceptional progress are made within an extremely supportive environment, allowing all girls to develop into confident, compassionate and well-educated young women. School leavers go on to succeed highly in both higher education and the workplace, equipped with both excellent qualifications and the necessary interpersonal skills for further study and employment.”

Despite the recession, student numbers continue to grow at RMS, as more and more parents recognise the unique opportunities offered by this distinctive school. We encourage you to visit the school and experience its uniqueness for yourself.
